Abstract
Riding comfort of a roller coaster was analyzed by means of questionnaire and acceleration measurements. The analysis showed that the lateral acceleration of the coaster classified into the "bad riding comfort" group on the questionnaire had a peak at a frequency between 3.5 and 5 Hz, a frequency almost the same as the natural frequency of the human head. The effect of the secondary suspension inserted between a car body and a truck to reduce the lateral acceleration and to change the frequency of the acceleration vibration from the natural frequency of the human head, was then investigated by the dynamic simulation. The results showed that the secondary suspension reduced the lateral acceleration by half, thereby reducing the frequency of the lateral acceleration to 2 Hz.
