Abstract
Both a driving capability and a riding comfort are important performance of an automobile suspension. Various types of suspension have already been studied to improve the performance. As one of them, an active suspension equipped with an actuator to control the vibration can realize the most superior performance. However, it does not always fit common automobiles because of its high emergy consumption. The purpose of this study is to develop an active suspension system to minimize the energy consumption. An pneumatic active suspension has been chosen because it can easily save the energy as an air pressure. The proposed systems comprise an usual active suspension comprising a pneumatic cylinder and servo control valves, which is mounted an air tank and some on/of switching valves. An exhaust air from the cylinder is retrieved into the saving air tank and the air in the tank is reused as an energy for the active control. The air flows are switched by on/off valves according to the predetermined pressure conditions. In this paper, two types of energy saving active suspension are proposed. Some experiments show the availability of the suspensions.
