Description
Seventy two dairy cows with persistent corpus luteum or corpus luteum cysts were given 800 μg of prostaglandin F2α analogue (ONO 1052) to induce estrus and following results were obtained:
1. Estrus was induced in 67 (93.1%) out of 72 cows. Forty six (70.8%) out of 65 cows in-seminated at the first estrus after the treatment became pregnant. By repeated insemination, finally 62 (86.1%) out of 72 cows became pregnant.
2. The conception rate was the highest (10/11, 90.9%), in the cows with poor estrous signs followed by the group of excellent estrous signs (7/8, 87.5%), and good estrous signs (28/45, 62.2%).
3. The conception rate was the highest (14/15, 93.3%) in the cows with small follicles, followed by those with medium ones (27/40, 67.5%), and large ones (4/9, 44.4%).
4. The relations between the days from the treatment to ovulation and the ratio of pregnant vs total cows were: 3 days 2/2, 4 days 13/19, 5 days 21/27, 6 days 6/8, 8 days 0/1, and for 9, 10 and 12 days 1/1 each.
