Abstract

As far as we know, the attitudes and working conditions of graduate students of dental schools in Japan have never been surveyed. Kyushu Dental College has recently conducted a survey of the research conditions and attitudes of graduate students as part of a program of educational reform in the school. The second, third, forth grade graduate students in the college were surveyed by questionnaire. A total of 35 of 43 students responded.
Some of the important findings were as follows:
1. Levels of satisfaction with the major subjects were higher than those for the minor subjects.
2. There was a significant negative correlation between periods occupied by research activities and those for clinical work.
3. There was a significant positive correlation between the levels of satisfaction for research supervision and the length of the supervising periods.
4. Female graduate students showed higher levels of satisfaction for the major and minor subjects and for research supervision than did the male students.
