<p>The effect of cold treatment（0℃）on the survival of Carposina sasakii larvae in apples was examined to develop an efficient method of killing the larvae for quarantine control. Younger larvae were more susceptible to low temperature and complete mortality was achieved with a relatively short duration of cold treatment. At the same physiological age, larvae that developed earlier in the season were killed within a shorter duration of cold treatment, suggesting that the effect of cold treatment was also influenced by the environmental conditions during larval development prior to cold treatment. These results indicate that the time required for complete mortality varies with cultivar-dependent harvest time of apples.</p>
