<p>Whether fungicide spray alone affects on the occurrence of Typhlodromus vulgaris was investigated in apple orchards in Akita Prefecture, northern Japan in 2008 and 2009. The orchards were sprayed with fungicides at 2 week intervals from mid-May to early September. In both years T. vulgaris was observed continuously in the sprayed orchard, although they were seldom observed in mid-June to mid-August in the fungicides-sprayed orchard. In the both orchards, T. vulgaris populations were high even in months when no spider mites were observed. These results indicate that some types of fungicide affect the occurrence of T. vulgaris. Therefore, it is suggested that T. vulgaris can be used as a sensitive bio-indicator for reflecting of the strength of control pressure for the objective assessment of agro-ecosystems in apple orchards.</p>
