The effects of chlorantraniliprole on Carposina sasakii were examined under laboratory and field conditions. Chlorantraniliprole residues on plastic cups and apples exhibited a slow-acting effect on adult survival, causing an approximately 50% mortality until day 9 after treatment at 22℃. The percentage of unmated females was significantly higher in treated cups than in untreated cups. The total number of eggs laid in treated cups was smaller than that laid in untreated cups. Reduced oviposition by females in treated cups resulted from both an increase in the number of unmated females and a decrease in the number of eggs laid by mated females. Chlorantraniliprole had no ovicidal effect on C. sasakii eggs, but exhibited a moderate larvicidal activity, which prevented neonate larvae from boring into the apples. A field study revealed that two-week interval spraying of chlorantraniliprole was highly effective for controlling C. sasakii, which was probably brought about by lethal effects on adults and neonate larvae in combination with adverse effects on the reproductive success of adults.
