Abstract

Recently, the gall wasp, Diplolepis japonica (Walker), severely attacked the endemic rose, Rosa multiflora Thunb., cultivated for ornamental use in Tajima-mati, Fukushima Prefecture.
Its gall was formed on leaf and sometimes on fruit. Infected fruits gradually became black, and blanches bearing them lost commercial value. Great part of shoots were infested by the gall wasp in the survey field.
A few hymenopterous parasitoids were found in about 30 per cent of galls, and they emerged out from the galls in mid August to early September.
