Description
Loew et al. (1946) and Orias et al. (1949) described the apnoea caused by antihistaminic compounds and Aviado et al. (1950) explained the mechanism of the apnoea in dogs to be due to the reflex similar to that of veratridine. Thereafter, Jones (1952) reported that the apnoea is different from that caused by veratridine. In the previous report (Takasaki, 1956), the mechanism of the apnoea caused by nicotine and the species difference between cats and rabbits were clarified. In the experiments described in this paper, the mechanism of the apnoea caused by diphen-hydramine, is re-investigated and the differences from the nicotine apnoea in cats and rabbits are analysed by the same method as the previous reports.
