Abstract
A generalized lubrication equation valid for both an arbitrary Knudsen number, defined as the ratio of molecular mean free path and spacing, and an arbitrary accommodation coefficient at boundary surfaces, is derived through a linearized Boltzmann equation. Numerical analysis of the equation reveals that, if the accommodation coefficient is less than 1, that is. if not all molecules reflect diffusely, load carrying capacities are smaller than those for diffuse reflection.
