Description

The frequency distribution of slope tangents in mountain slope was studied by noting that the frequency distribution of slope tangents may relate to the problems of slope form and process. In this study, the shape of distribution on the relative frequency of tangents in mountain area was investigated to clarify the meaning, the property of that distribution, and the relation between that distribution and the mountain form. Four areas in Gifu pref. and one area in Mie pref. were investigated. The numbers of contour line were measured with the revised Terada method of drawing one cm mesh on a topographical map, and the slope tangents were calculated by using the numbers of contour line. The conclusions may be summarized as follows. (1) The relative frequency distribution of slope tangents in mountain areas represents the property of steep and subduable mountain. (2) The relative frequency distribution of slope tangents agrees with normal distribution in a normal, mature mountain and mountain of elevated peneplain. (3) In the region of erosional and tectonic forms, however this distribution does not agree with normal distribution.
