Description

Active adults of Monochamus alternatus HOPE with mean weight were used to test toxicants which were made of some of following components: fenitrothion, fenthion, ethylene dibromide, sorpol-X (emulsifier) and xylene (solvent). Both the oral and the contact toxicity were respectively measured by dosing a fixed quantity of toxicants in the oral cavity or on the pronotum of test insects by using a microsyringe. Oral toxicity of each toxicant (lethal dose to 50 percent of sample-μg/adult-pure quantity of fenitrothion or fenthion) was 0.578 (fenitrothion emulsion), 0.520 (fenitrothion • ethylene dibromide emulsion), 0.679 (fenthion emulsion), and 0.552 (fenthion • ethylene dibromide emulsion). Contact toxicity of each toxicant was 0.362 (fenitrothion emulsion), 0.406 (fenitrothion • ethylene dibromide emulsion), 0.499 (fenthion emulsion), and 0.524 (fenthion.ethylene dibromide emulsion). However, there was no significant difference in the oral or in the contact toxicity among the toxicants, judging from 0.95 fiducial intervals. These results seem to show no significant difference in the toxicity between organophosphorus toxicants and ethylene dibromide, alone and in combination, to adults of M. alternatus.
