Description

Many Sugi stands (Cryptomeria japonica) are not in full density for mean D.B.H. of stand, so in this paper the method to estimate actual stem volume in these low density stands is studied. Between actual stem volume of stand (V) and mean D.B.H. (_??_) in each height class, the following relation has been pre-viously established: log V=log ρ +a log _??_+log b. This formula means that mean D.B.H. has to be introduced to estimate the actual stem volume of stand, in addition to stand density (ρ). Based on this idea, __??_-_??_-ρ-V diagram was made for Sugi stand. This diagram offers a useful method to estimate the actual stem volume in low density stands or in thinned stands, and to estimate even the volume of thinnings. This diagram will be helpful for cultural system including density control, thinning, yield, etc.
