Description

Seed production were studied in a black <br>wattle (Acacia mearnsii DE WILD.) plantation in Wakayama Prefecture for two <br>years, 1977_??_1978. Numbers and weights of seed fall were estimated at 4, 126.3 and 49.6g/m2 respectively in 1977, and 10, 119.2 and 122.3g/m2 respectively in 1978. Of these, sound seeds were estimated at 2, 393.3/m2 in 1977 and 6, 678.7/m2 in 1978. Seed fall occurred mainly in July while a few seeds fell throughout each year. Furthermore, the seed of about twenty species of tree such as Repaneae neriifolia, Daphniphyllum teijsmannii, and so forth were collected, amounting to 5.1g/m2 in 1977 and 1.4g/m2 in 1978. These certainly are attributable to transportation by birds.
