Description

In the various woody environ-ments which are sympatric areas of Apodemus speciosus and A. argenteus, the difference, of habitat preference between the two species was studied. A. speciosus had a strong preference for rich ground vegetation, and in fact many individuals were captured here. On the other hand, A. argenteus showed little tendency to prefer ground vegetation. A similar phenomenon was observed in field experi-ments with an enclosure which was divided into four parts consisting of different<br>vegetation types. A. speciosus utilized only parts which had ground vegetation, <br>whereas A. argenteus occurred in all parts so long as some vegetations grew.
