Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to obtain various information on the stem from partial stem data. A computer-aided system to obtain estimates <br>from partial data was developed with the use of taper curve, a growth curve of height, and a growth curve of diameter at breast height. New concepts of “the growth curve of relative height” and “the growth curve of relative diameter at breast height” are introduced which make relative the growth <br>curves on the basis of height and diameter of stems at 40 years of age. The taper curve is determined by using the function of polynomials up to the third power, and the growth curves are determined by using the MITSCHERLICH equa-<br>tion. Two ways of estimating are compared. The first is to substitute sample data for the prepared functions providing the diameter at any height, and the second is to calculated the individual taper curve using sample data only. As a result, the former way estimates precisely the entire stem volume. with <br>two disks at 0.3m and 4.3m heights, and the latter estimates equally precisely with seven disks at different heights.
