Using nine variables, (1 School attendance, 2 Intelligence quotient, 3 Scholary achievments, 4 Behavior, 5 Height, 6 Weight, 7 Character, 8 Family environment and 9 Physical fitness) as health indicators, measurements were performed on total 330 children in fifth and sixth grade of two Kyoto municipal elementary schools.<br>By the principal factor solution, two common factors were extracted. The first factor was found to be a general factor, accounting 69per cent of the total variance. The second factor might be labeled “health type”, having loading of opposite signs for physical variables (1, 5, 6 and 9) and non physical ones (2, 3, 4, 7 and 8).<br>Computing the β weights for two factors, the composite health indices were obtained.
