From the various data and information concerning the 23 administrative sections in the city of Tokushima, such as the number of complaints against environmental pollution classified by type of phenomenon, the data on the configurations of cities, the data on the urban infrastructural facilities and the data on the views held by the local residents, we obtained the following knowledge and information.<br>1. Between the regional features analyzed with data on the configurations of cities and the numbers of complaints against environmental pollution classified by area and by type of phenomenon, the following significant correlations were recognized: A significant correlation showing positive regression was obtained between an area with an urban highly commercial character and the number of complaints against vibration and noise, and a significant correlation showing negative regression between the former and the number of complaints against water pollution. On the other hand, a correlation showing positive regression was recognized between areas in which dwellings, commerce and industry are mixed and the number of complaints against dust, soot and smoke, and offensive odor.<br>2. In addition between the data on urban infrastructural facilities and the number of complaints against environmental pollution the following significant correlations were recognized: Between the extent of the improvement in the urban infrastructual facilities and the number of complaints against vibration and noise, a significant correlation showing positive regression was recognized, while between the former and the water pollution a significant correlation showing negative regression was recognized. On the other hand, between the elements of convenience in daily life and the number of complaints against dust and offensive odor, a negative regression was indicated.<br>3. Between the potential features of views of the residents in different sections of the city, as revealed in the survey conducted on the views of residents on the one hand and the number of complaints against environmental pollution on the other, an explanatory variable indication correlation was selected.<br>As outlined above, between the number of complaints against environmental pollution and various regional characteristics, or administrative measures, or the views of the residents, there are statistically significant correlations and, as a result of this study, it has been found that the residents' complaints about environmental pollution provide important indices in the maintenance of environmental hygiene in each region.
