説明
In vibration disease there is the peripheral nerve disturbances (sensory disturbances) of fingers. To detect the sensory disturbances the vibratory sense threshold and the pain threshold and so on have been measured.
This paper discribes observations on the change of the pain threshold of the finger before and after cold exposure i.e., immersion of the hand into the water at 30°C, 20°C, 10°C and 5°C and on the relationship between the pain threshold and the vibratory sense threshold at a frequency of 125Hz. Subjects were 79 chain saw operators, who ranged from 30 to 68 years of age. Of the 79 operators, 53 were suffering from vibration induced white fingers (VWF group). 6 operators in good condition of fingers and 7 male laboratory workers were compared with the VWF group as the control.
The results were as follows:
1) The pain threshold after exposures was high, as the water temperature became cold.
2) The pain threshold in the control group was slightly high just after immersion to 5°C, but it became rapidly low with time after exposure. On the other hand, that in the VWF group was very high after immersion into cold water at 10°C and 5°C and it became slightly low with time after exposure.
3) In the white finger attack workers, the pain threshold in the fifties was higher than that in the forties.
4) There were statistically significant positive correlations between the pain threshold and the vibratory sense threshold for frequency of 125Hz, after exposure to 20°C, 10°C and 5°C.
