Abstract

Chemical carcinogen, DMH was administered subcutaneously in rats to investigate the relation between prostaglandins (PGs) and colonic cancer. PGE levels in the colonic mucosa of control group were 40.2±3.4 (ng/g wet weight). But, PGE levels in the colonic mucosa of DMH group were significantly higher (49.5±2.4) than that of control group (p<0.05). PGE levels in colonic cancer of DMH group were also significantly high (54.1±4.9) compared with that in the colonic mucosa of control group (p<0.05). On the other hand, PGFlevels in the colonic mucosa of control group were 34.7±3.7. PGF levels in colonic cancer of DMH group were significantly low (17.6±2.1) compared with that in the colonic mucosa of control group (p<0.005) and that in the colonic mucosa of DMH group (p<0.01). Moreover, E/F ratios in colonic cancer of DMH group were significantly high compared with that in the colonic mucosa of control group (p<0.001) and DMH group (p<0.001).<br>It was suggested that PGs are concerned in carcinogenesis and proliferation of colonic cancer in rats.
