Description

Recent developments of facilitated transport membranes for gas separation are summarized. A facilitated transport membrane is one of functional membranes containing a carrier which can reversibly and selectively react with a target molecules including some gases such as CO2, O2, olefin and so on. A facilitated transport membrane shows excellent permeability and selectivity for a targeted gas, although the excellent gas permeability is achieved within limited condition. In order to expand the application area of a facilitated transport membrane, in recent years, task-specific ionic liquids have attracted their attentions as a key material which acts as not only a carrier but also diffusion medium of a facilitated transport membrane.
