The mode of development of tubercular lesions characteristic of pseudotuberculosis in rabbits, swines and goat was studied with mice inoculated intraperitoneally with Yersinia pseudotuberculosis. Pseudotubercles as seen in spontaneous cases of the disease could frequently be recognized in the liver, spleen, mesenteric lymph nodes, peritoneum, peritoneal adipose tissues, and other organs of mice. Formation of purulent cellular tubercles was followed by purulent proliferative tubercles which appeared abundantly at 4 or 5 days postinoculation and were characterized by serous exudation, infiltration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes, and proliferation of histiocytic cells. Thereafter, necrotic proliferative and coagulation-necrotic proliferative tubercles, being similar to pseudotubercles in spontaneous cases, were produced at 7 to 15 days postinoculation, and they formed finally granulomatous tubercles. At the final stage, there were acute glomerulonephritis, and edematous and fibrinoid swelling of small- and medium-sized arteries in the kidneys, spleen and lungs, suggesting that some allergic reactions might have been related to the development of characteristic lesions of this disease.
