AKIの早期診断・早期介入は，その後の患者予後を左右するため，大変重要である．血清クレアチニンといった従来のバイオマーカーでは，早期の検出力が不十分のため，採取が容易な尿バイオマーカーの探索が精力的に行われてきた．その結果，2011年に保険収載された尿中L-FABPは，日本発のバイオマーカーとして注目されている．CKDのみならず，AKIの早期診断に尿中L-FABPは大変有用である．
