Description
Nutritive value of heterotrophic grown chlorella was determined using adult cockerels with the artificial anus. The following results were obtained.
1. Apparent digestibility of chlorella and depigmented chlorella was 74% and 70-75%, respectively. Depigmentation did not increase the digestibility of chlorella.
2. Biological value of chlorella and depigmented chlorella was 65-67% and 46-55%, respectively. Protein of 10% depigmented chlorella protein diet showed lower biological value than that of 5% depigmented chlorella protein diet. Depigmentation of chlorella decreased the biological value of chlorella protein.
3. Metabolizable energy values of chlorella were 3.11 and 3.83kcal/g when the cockerels were fed 10 and 5% chlorella protein diets, respectively, whereas those of depigmented chlorella were 2.54 and 2.47kcal/g when the cockerls were fed 10 and 5% depigmented chlorella protein diets, respectively.
