Description
Fourteen days old cockerels were given an oral the mixed inoculation with 50, 000 sporulated oocysts of Eimeria tenella-Amprolium resistant strain and 100, 000 sporulated oocysts of E. acervulina-Shiojiri strain.
Following 2 experiments were made: Efficacy used in combination with beclotiamine (BCT), sulfachloropyrazine (SCP) and Pyrimethamine (PRM) for the prevention of coccidiosis, and efficacy of mixtures of SCP and PRM in feed for the therapy of coccidiosis.
In the prevented effect, the infected birds were treated a 7 days period after inoculation. All drugs were added to the feed containings SCP 40 and 60ppm, PRM 5ppm, and BCT 80 and 100ppm, respectively. BCT 100ppm+SCP 60ppm+PRM 5ppm prevented oocyst outputs and provided satisfactory lesion scores and weight gains. The mixture of BCT, SCP and PRM against the mixed infection of Eimeria was more effective than that of Pancoxin®, a reference drug.
In the therapeutic effect, a mixture of 10ppm or 20ppm PRM and 300ppm SCP in feed were administered to chicks for period of 2 days, from the 3 to 5days after the mixed infection. SCP+PRM protected against death from coccidiosis, and prevented the passage of oocysts until after the end of treatment. A feed containing 10ppm PRM and 300ppm SCP showed about the same effectiveness as 750ppm SCP alone for therapy of coccidiosis.
