抄録

It has been revealed that available phosphorus determined on responses of the toe ash content of chicks1) is useful criterion to indicate dietary level of phosphorus which is available particularly for the bone formation of chicks. It was reported2-4) that a diet containng minimum levels of calcium and phosphorus to support optimum growth of chicks resulted in poor calcification of the bone. Significant breed difference was also reported3) on the response of the toe ash content between the egg-type and meat-type chicks fed a diet of the same composition. Since the determination of the toe ash content is very simple and timeand labour-saving, the content has been used in these experiments mentioned above as a criterion to indicate the bone hardness and the bone ash content. Linear relationship between the toe ash content and the tibia bone hardness was already reported in the previous papers5).<br>In this paper, breed difference in linear relationship between ash contents of the toe and the tibia bone was reported.
