Using 45-day-old Single Comb White Leghorn cockerels whose main vessels and/or nerves distributed along the ceca had been amputated, the pattern of excretion of cecal feces under the normal feeding condition was investigated. The results obtained are summarized as follows:<br>When main cecal vessels such as cadual- middle- and cranialileocecal arteries and veins together with nerves attached to the vessels or the nerves alone were amputated, cecal feces were excreted even at mid-night. The frequency of excretion, however, was reduced.<br>Amputating the cecal branches of cranial- and cadual-mesentric arteries and veins together with the nerves connected with the vessels completely stopped the excretion of cecal feces. This fact suggests that the cecal branches of mesentric vessels and/or the nerves connected with the vessels play a significant role in the excretion of cecal feces.
