Description

Use of post-mortem CT on determination of the cause of cardiopulmonary arrest on arrival is beginning to be reported, but is not yet common. Blood tests are widely used. However, evaluation of troponin is controversial. We compared the usefulness of troponin value with findings on post-mortem CT. Of the 35 troponin I-positive cardiopulmonary arrests on arrival, 8 exhibited positive CT findings. Troponin I positivity does not indicate that the cause of death in cardiopulmonary arrest on arrival is acute myocardial infarction. However, if the cut-off value is set higher, it may be possible to increase the specificity of diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction.
