Abstract
A geological survey for transmission line construction planning was conducted around the northwestern rim of Ohchigata plain, Noto peninsula. It included exploratory borings at Shukuya, Hakui City, located on the northwestern rim of Ohchigata plain. New findings related fo lineaments and faults are as follows:
1. A major fault was recognized at the foot of a mountain. Granite basement rocks thrust up onto sedimentary rocks along this fault. However, the fault does not seem to dislocate the overlying late Quaternary formation. A peat layer intercalated in the lower part of the late Quaternary formation was dated by accelerator mass spectrometry as ≥56, 200yrs BP (NUTA-230).
2. Along the lineaments recognized on the southwestern slope of Mt. Bijoh, no evidence of faulting was found. The lineaments are considered to be structurally controlled landforms, formed under differential erosion varying with the geological structure and with the differences in lithology and groundwater distribution between the Taki conglomerate formation and granite.
