Abstract
Generally Ni or Cr is used to improve the mechanical properties-especially the property of resisting wear- of cast iron products.</br> We performed a few experiments on the cast irons of Cu and Cu-Cr which have the nearlly same properties to that of a cast iron with Ni, because the supply of Ni is decreased recently and also we must cut down the production cost. The results of the experiments are as follows:</br> (1) The graphitization of Cu is weaker than that of Ni.</br> (2) There is no segregation of Cu up to about 2%.</br> (3) Copper reduces its fluidity, but there is no great influence at the casting temperature about 1350°C.</br> (4) The mechanical properties of them are equal to that of Ni-Crcast iron.</br> (5) Like a Ni-Cr cast iron, the micro-structure of a Cu-Cr cast iron makes its pearlite fine.</br> We used them for a dryer-gear in conformity with these actual results. The results of them are as follows.</br> (1) As for a mould or a design, they are as good as a Ni-Cr cast iron.</br> (2) The blow hole does not arise in products and the castability is good.</br> (3) The machinability is good.
