Abstract

The measurement method of macroscopic graphite morphology in flake graphite cast iron was studied using a laser roughness meter on the fractured surface. The fracture of flake graphite cast iron mainly goes through the graphite matrix interface and the inside of the graphite. Assuming that the fracture surface contains considerable information on the graphite morphology, we therefore measured the surface roughness using a laser roughness meter.<br>  The experimental results show that the graphite morphology, the ratio of the A-type and D-type graphite areas in the macroscopic range, can be accurately estimated using the laser roughness patterns of the fractured surface in flake graphite cast iron.
