• Durability of Coating Materials Bonded with Aluminum Biphosphate for Metal Mold

抄録

Coating materials were made by mixing silica sand, alumina sand or diatomaceous earth with aluminum biphosphate solution. Their durability was investigated with varying the concentration of bonding solution and ratio of bonding solution to filler sand and adding various kinds of transition element phosphates to the slurry by the methods of thermal shock test, drop test of molten metal and casting test. Experimental results were :
1) The best durability of coating was obtained when the concentration of aluminum biphosphate solution was 20% and the ratio of silica sand to bonding solution was 3 to 1.
2) The durability of coating was improved by adding Cr, Co, or Cu phosphate to said mixture where Cr and Co phosphate showed better results. The amount of addition was needed to be more than 0.02 mols of metal equivalent per 100 grms of bonding mixture.
3) The surface of products cast into metal mold coated with silica-aluminum chromium or cobalt biphosphate mixture, looked fine and was so excellent in durability that it did not undergo any damage after hundred times repetition of pouring when the thickness of coating was reduced to a half.
4) The hardening temperature of aluminum biphoshate-sand mixture was near 270°C. It was lowered by adding Cr, Co, or Cu phosphate.
5) Moisture absorption of aluminum biphosphate-sand mixture was reduced by adding Cr, Co, or Cu phosphate to the mixture.
