Abstract

This paper deals with some practical problems associated with grain refined KM castings in applying to turbine disk materials. One is concerning its feasibility of utilizing it in unforged cast state for obtaining improved creep strength at intermediate temperatures. The work includes investigation of steel wire core applicability for making air cooling internal pathways and material properties (creep, tensile, fatigue). The other is concerning application of a new forging technique (SIRD) to the KM castings which is expected to have better forging performances than the conventional isothermal forging technique and consequently to provide improved tensile strength at intermediate temperatures.
