Abstract

Niigata Mill of Hokuetu Paper has four steam turbines, three of which were installed in 1960 s. Due to operation of more than 20 years, the efficiency was going down and some modifications were needed on three of those turbines.<BR>The modifications were carried out stepwise during shut down intervals for official equipment investigation.<BR>1. Separator board : replaced to new ones.<BR>2. Moving wing : replaced to new high efficiency types.<BR>3. Moving wing seal fin : replaced to new ones.<BR>4. Shaft packing rings : replaced to new ones in the front, center and back part respectively.<BR>5. Rotor : replaced to new ones in No. 2 and No. 3 turbines. old one in No. 4 turbine.<BR>6. No. 1 nozzle box was replaced in No. 1 turbine.<BR>Modification of No 2. turbine from a breeder back pressure turbine to a back pressure turbine.<BR>The improvement in steam consumption rate is as follows.<BR>No. 2 turbine : from 11.09 tons/Mw to 9.77 tons/Mw 11.9% improvement<BR>No. 3 turbine : from 6.68 tons/Mw to 6.26 tons/Mw 6.3% improvement<BR>No. 4 turbine : from 9.63 tons/Mw to 9.63 tons/Mw 10.6% improvement
