Description

A study is made of the nuclear characteristics of the blanket design that employs a high pressure H2 or D2 gas as insulator between the wall and the plasma.<BR>The H2 gas blanket could obtain higher energy deposition than the D2 due to the higher energy release by the (n, γ) reaction. The pressure required for effectively attenuating the neutron flux in the gas insulator is above 400-500 atm for D-T and Cat. D neutron sources, and above 100 atm for D-D.
