Abstract

In a magnetoactive plasma where the Hall effect is importarA, the moving velocity of magnetic lines of force is not given by the mean. velocity of the medium, but by the mean velocity of the eletron gas, a component of the medium. It is thus concluded that, in such a medium, the magnetic lines of force are transported as being frozen in the electron gas. Applicability of the “frozen-in” principle is critically considered for the case that the resistance of the medium is effective. When the Hall effect becomes significant in the medium where collision frequency is much smaller or the magnetic intensity is stronger, the interaction of magnetic lines of force with conducting medium must be cautiously dealt with.
