Abstract

The strong request of more speed-up of CPU and larger-scale capacity of memory exists among scientists, engineers and others. In response to this request, the announcements of home-made supercomputers (Fujitsu in July and Hitachi in August) succeeded last year. This movement has evoked a large echo in USA. The world situation on the very high-speed scientific computers is becoming active. In Japan, scientific calculation's field enters into the age of the supercomputer in the coming autumn.<BR>In this article, we try to survey the movement and characteristics of the supercomputers briefly.
