Description

Currently, there are two methods of brightness determination in JIS. One is JIS P 8123 (Testing method for brightness by Hunter of paper and pulp) and one is JIS P 8148 (Paper, board and pulps measurement of diffuse blue reflectance factor (ISO brightness)). JIS P 8123 was commonly used in Japan but was not popular in the world. In order to globalize the standard, JIS P 8148 : 1993 was prepared based on ISO 2470 : 1977 and revised at 2001 to adapt ISO 2470 : 1999. It is important to popularize this method in the Japanese pulp and paper industry.<BR>There is no method of color determination in P sector of JIS. At present, ISO 5631 (Paper and board-Determination of colour (C/ 2°)-Diffuse reflectance method) is under translation to JIS by JAPAN TAPPI. In this paper, the outline of JIS P 8148 : 2001 the determination of ISO brightness and ISO 5631 the determination of color are described.
