Description

Regarding the conversion from AC-RMS-voltage to DC-voltage, its necessity and the various methods hitherto published in the literature are briefly introduced before describing in detail the converter, developed by authors.<br>This converter consists of the following parts: (a) an auxiliary PT, (b) a transistor synchronous rectifying circuit, (c) a squaring circuit composed of a transistor differential amplifier and a diode function generator with the square root characteristics, (d) an averaging circuit (RC low-pass filter), (e) a square-root extracting circuit utilizing a diode function generator and (f) a transistor differential amplifier.<br>This converter is able to accurately measure RMS-voltage and produces a linear output. The output DC-voltage of 0-5volts corresponds to the input AC-RMS-voltage of 70-140 or 90-120 volts. The performance of this converter may be rated as class 0.5 of an indicating AC voltmeter. Futher more this converter is protected well against abnormal phenomena, which might occur in the power line.
