Description

A rapid and convenient analytical method was described for the determination of methylated methylol group in the melamine-formaldehyde resin solutions. The determination was made by modified iodometry which follows to the hydrolysis with dilute sulfuric acid. The procedure was first studied on hexamethyl ether of hexamethylol melamine, and then applied to the more complicated resin solutions. Free methanol interferes the hydrolysis, and must be removed previously under vacuum.The precision of this method is within 1% and the accuracy is generally within 3% for samples of simpler compositions.
