The bleach plant effluent closure which the effluent from bleach plant is recovered to KP recovery plant is attractive technology for Japanese pup and paper industry facing to change the bleaching sequencesfrom conventional bleaching to ECF bleaching. The Scandinavia countries where ECF bleachinghave already been common technology started their own project dealing with the bleach plant effluentclosure and investigated the feasibility. Some Scandinavia mills have also done mill trials by themselves.In this report, I will show the data concerning with effluent qualities from Japanese bleach plants, briefly review the Rapson-Reeve process. And then refer to the anticipated problems, available technologiesand introduce some mills trying effluent closure. Finally discuss some idea for applying for ourbleaching plant.
