Polyester-polyamide block copolymers were synthesized from nylon 6 and polyester components (adipic acid and 1, 4-butanediol). The synthesis proceeded in two steps, esterification (1st step) and polymerization (2nd step). The molecular weight of nylon 6 reduced, and adducts of the diol to adipic acid were produced in esterification (1st step). Copolymers were formed in the 2nd step. In DSC measurements, peaks corresponding to Tg of polyester and Tm of polyamide at about 200°C were observed. These copolymers showed a wide rubbery plateau in the viscoelastic test. These results suggest the existence of polyamide block and the formation of physical cross-link. Consequently these copolymers were elastomers which showed high tensile properties.
