抄録

Linear polyethylene of high molecular weight formed fibrils when crystallized under uniaxial or biaxial stretching above the melting point. The effects of heat treatment on these fibrils were investigated by means of the scanning electron microscopy, the differential scanning calorimetry, and the small-angle X-ray measurement. By the heat treatment at the temperature close to the melting point, many cracks developed on a surface of the fibrils perpendicular to fibril direction and micro-fibrils were formed in the core of the fibrils. The crystallite, the highly oriented fibrils, and the extended chain crystals were found in the heat-treated sample which has three melting peaks in the chart of DSC. For the fibrillar sample treated at 135°C for 2 hours, the amount of crystallite phase, the highly oriented fibril phase, and the extended chain crystal phase in the core were estimated respectively to be 59, 35, and 6% of the total crystalline phase.
