Abstract

An optimal estimation method for the interfacial tension between polymer melts was developed to avoid the capillary effect of Andreas' method. This new method was based on the linear regression analysis for the drop curvature and depth. The digital image analyzing technique was utilized for calculating the drop curvatures. The estimated interfacial tension was checked by comparing the numerically integrated Laplacian curve with the drop profile. The interfacial tension determined with this method was independent of both the drop volume and the inside diameter of the drop-forming capillary.
