Description
P-V-T relations of Polystyrene (I) -Methylcyclohexane (II) solutions including I and II were measured at 15-150°C and 1-250 kg/cm2. From these results, the reduced equation of state and the ratios of characteristic molecular parameters to that of a reference substance were obtained by a superposition method based on the principle of corresponding states. The equation of state of Flory -Orwoll-Vrij theory showed better agreement with the experiment than those of Prigogine-Trappenies-Mathot and Nanda-Simha theories. The obtained molecular parameters of both volume and external degrees of freedom changed linearly with composition. The parameter of interaction energy exhibited a nonlinear change with composition, having negative excess quantity. The excess quantity of the energy parameter was interpreted well by the Berthelot rule, provided that the contact surface area of I per unit volume was about the half of that of II. In conclusion the P-V-T relations of I-II solutions were reasonably described with the principle of corresponding states.
