Eight kinds of poly (quinazolone-amide-imide) s (IV) were prepared by cyclodehydration of the corresponding poly (amic acid) s (III) which were obtained by the reaction of either 4, 4′-diaminodiphenylmethane with compounds containing two phthalic anhydride groups (II). II were prepared from 4-chloroformyl phthalic anhydride and four 6, 6′-methylene bis (2-methyl-3-(aminophenyl-substituted) 4, 3 (H) -quinazolone) s (I). III are soluble in N-methylpyrrolidone and dimethylacetamide, and IV imidized by being heated under reduced pressure at 200-250°C exhibited good solubility in m-cresol. The solutions of III and IV with ηlnh of 0.71-1.20dl·g-1 could be cast into films. Electrical, mechanical, and thermal properties of the polymer films have been investigated and it was found that IV is less thermally stable than the corresponding poly (quinazoloneimide) s.
