Sodium violurate was found to exhibit an electrochromic property, a change in color from purple to yellow by electrooxidation and reversely by electroreduction. Similarly, the polyethyleneimine salt of violuric acid was electrochemically investigated in aqueous solution, together with monomeric amine salts. The reversible change in color from purple to yellow was also observed by electrooxidation and reduction. ESR spectra for the oxidized state of the polymeric and monomeric amine salts were similar in the splitting patterns.
