Description

A gas chromatographic technique was applied to measure the solubilities of gaseous C5-C10 n-alkanes, benzene, toluene, p-xylene, cyclohexane, and acetone in 1, 2-polybutadiene (Mn=7.1×104) in the temperature range of 35-180°C under atmospheric pressure. Measurements were carried out by use of 6 columns in which polymer loading ranged from 0 to 8%. Mass-fraction Henry's constants and partition coefficients were obtained by correcting the effect of adsorption on the support. To correlate data obtained at temperatures higher than the melting point of 1, 2-polybutadiene, Bonner's equation for the solvent activity in polymer solution was applied at infinite dilution. A good agreement between the experimental and calculated values was found. The binary interaction parameters were independent of temperature.
