Polymeric peroxides prepared from dibasic acid dichlorides and sodium peroxide are very effective as radical initiators to obtain block copolymers, but they have poor solubility in monomers and solvents and poor safety in handling. New polymeric peroxides (I) were synthesized by the reaction of sodium peroxide with dibasic acid dichlorides of oligoesters of adipic acid and glycol. I were much superior to the formers in solubility and safety and are very useful in industrial applications. Half life temperature for ten hours was 63.2°C. I has several O-O bonds in a molecule, but each bond showed almost the same degree of easiness in thermal destruction. I exhibited similar activity to that of the conventional polymeric peroxides for the initiation of styrene polymerization.
