Superstructural variation of reoriented isotactic polypropylene sheet during uniaxial extension was followed by the wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) and the small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), The shear deformation of the crystallites (A2 process) and the restoration of molecular orientation from the shear-deformed state (A2 process) were distinguished by X-ray goniometries using WAXD and SAXS. The crystallite thickness depends on the testing temperature after the initiation of the A2 Process. The tensile stress along the chain direction aueleratedly increased after the initiation of the A2 process. The behavior of molecular chains in the A2 process can be explained as a result of the refolding of extending tie molecules to form new crystallites after they are pulled out of crystallites by overcoming the intermolecular force to restrain them in the crystallites.
